Apparently, I applied for 4-5 jobs (This is my first job)and I didn't get a phone call from any of them yet (It's been a month). So now, i decided I should have given a resume because I just gave them an application.
So I thought, if I give a resume, I would have a better chance than just an application. I hope it will work as well, did it work with you guys? Apparently, I couldn't find any good sites on how to make a really good resume and if anyone knows, please post it or like a resume builder/generator type thing. Thanks. |

^ Yeah, when I applied, I left the references blank. I shouldn't have done that. -.-" But now, i'ma start adding references on my application. Bingo. That's what did it. More casual workplaces like retail/mall stores don't request resumes, but by filling out your job application, you're really expected to have filled it out enough that they can tell based on your application what kind of worker you'll be. They don't just need your personal contact information, they want to know more than that. Be as complete as possible, answer their questions, and if they ask for references (they always will), give them. If you've never had a job before, list under personal references people who will say nice things about you - you can't include your family, so a neighbor, teacher, church member, coach, etc.. If you've ever been a teacher's aid or volunteer of some sort, use the teacher/coordinator as a reference. Also, when you hand in the application, try not to be dressed down. In the event that you might run into the manager when you're handing it in or even picking it up, they may want to say a few things to you, and if you get this opportunity it's a GREAT chance to give a good first impression. You don't want to ruin it by looking unprofessional. You don't have to be extremely well-dressed, exactly, but dress how you would if you were going to work. As everyone has said, wait a few days and definitely call. Ask to speak with a manager, give him/her your name, and say you're following up on an application you put in. They may not have even looked at it, but if you call to reinforce that you're interested, it'll be pulled to the top. If a manager isn't available, you can always leave your contact information and ask to be called back. |
