so does anyone know exactly what you're suppose to write about when it comes to this application essay thing?? im not the best writer in the world . and what did you write yours about?

Well, it doesn't actually have to be something that you do.

It can be a learning experience that shows the colleges that you have matured and took from it in away.

My friend wrote about his family member dying from cancer. My best friend wrote about how her view of suicide changed after a relative committed it. I read a beautiful essay about a violinist who wrote about her love for music changed after her fingers got mutilated.

I know, it's a little morbid but those examples spring up into my mind. Except stray away from mentioning suicide to colleges. A lot of colleges (e.g., Cornell) have an undeclared "keep quiet or get out" policy about mental disorders and illness. They seriously would "ask" a student to take a leave if he/she shows signs of suicidal thoughts etc.

The point of the essay isn't to pry sympathy or flaunt something at the admissions people. It's to write something you are passionate about or believe in. To write well, like telling a story, to capture their attention so they spend more time on you.

Don't worry. You have weeks (if you aren't already afflicted with senioritis) to fine tune your essay. Get help from your college office, peers and English teachers.
