so many americans (excluding me and many others of course) are very dumb. basically, they don't know shit. like let me put it this way. "spanish" people are referred to people from spain (a smart american would know that) ... but a dude who is referring to mexicans or cubans as "spanish" ... then they're dumb. y'all dig me?

spanish people = people from spain that speak the language as well

yes mexicans and all them other hispanic ethnic groups may or do speak "spanish" as their main language but just for that, u cant refer to them as "spanish" ... why aren't americans smart enough to just call them hispanic?

first of all, lovedancesoul, brasilians can refer to themselves as latin considering they do live in LATIN AMERICA. i myself am brasilian and yea, maybe i am descended from portugal, but i was born in brazil, not portugal. i know of no one, given the older generation who was born in portugal. as far as i'm concerned you have no right to tell people what they should call themselves.

and krnprydeee, how can you exclude yourself from your own "dumb american" category? you don't even word your own sentences correctly to be considered smart. whether or not an american knows his/her geography and world cultures does not necessarily make them smart. a smart american would know when to keep their mouth shut about stuff they have no control over. now there are people who can use their given language to sway even the greatest minds, but you sir are not one.

maybe where you are from there are a lot of ignorant people that don't know left from right, but you cannot for that reason say all of america is that stupid. you sir are one to complain about saying names.

Latin America refers to the area of America in which the Romance (or Latin derived) languages are predominantly spoken. It has nothing to do with being "hispanic" or "latino" or even any race for that matter. Nor did i say anything about what you should call yourself. There's alot of black people that call themselves African American even though they werent born in africa..just like American born Puerto Ricans, Filipinos, etc. Given that Im of Afro Brasilian & Creole descent [even though I just say Im black]...I was stating an alternative view to yours.


Oh and to call Americans stupid because some make generalizations of a specific group of people is ignorant in itself. These types of things happen in tons of countries across the world. Its because sometimes people arent familiarized with a certain culture or topic. Americans cant no everything...nobody can be a walking encyclopedia.
