make friends. be genuine. work hard and get involved.
that is all!

i can't say much about freshman year. everyone told me it was going to be horrible, but apparently i was the only freshman that had more upperclassmen as friends than freshman friends. mostly it's because i took advantage of middle school when i was a 6th grader and befriended pretty much all the 7th and 8th graders too, BUT don't make your older friends the only friends you hang around like i mostly did, because you will miss them like f**k when they leave.

get involved in different things. do something academic extracurricular, something athletic, something artsy, but don't join everything there is. or well, just join whatever you're interested in and whatever you're good at. don't overdo it, or else people will think you're only doing it for your college apps. one from each sort of category is plenty.

make friends like crazy... if you're in all honors classes, don't limit your friends to those.

it's not a bad idea to hang with 'sketchy' people. you'll learn loads from them - just don't ever let yourself be considered as one of them. hang out with alll the crowds if your charisma can handle it.

if you're doing cheerleading, learn how to tumble.

blahblahblah.
