Awkward Best Friend Relationships Options

I'm sure that most of us have had this happen sometime in their life before...when you best guy friend tells you that he has a crush on you, and you aren't sure to stay best friends or go on to having a relationship.

as for me, i've had this happen not once, but twice.
i have a best friend, let's call him bob, and he really is my best friend and is always there for me. however, after homecoming, he confessed to me but i denied my feelings and preferred to stay as friends. a month later, i find out randomly that he's going out with one of my other friend. i was shocked, because we were really close even after homecoming and he didn't tell me anything.
during his relationship with my friend, we became distant and i became best friends with my other friend, jim. now bob and my friend broke up a month ago, because our group found out that she liked another guy. bob, being the nice guy as always, decided to break up with her but stayed as her good friend and came back to me as a best friend.
two days ago, i told him earlier that i liked jim, but that i knew that he would never like me back. bob, being supportive, tells me to confess to him next week before he leaves.
now last night, we were just talking when i noticed in his profile a quote about 'never leaving feelings left unspoken, unnoticed, yada yada.' and so i asked him. later i find out that he sorta likes me again. and with a really weird flashback, i told him that i don't know if things can really work out between us, and that i sorta don't want to stay as just best friends, and if i really do like jim, but i basically left him hanging.
and now i'm confused on what to do, because i don't know what to say to him, and i'm not even sure of my own feelings. i don't want to make the decision of choosing between them, but i don't want to hurt bob again. any advice on what i'm really feeling or what i should do would be really helpful...
and i'm sorry for making this long, dull, ginormous rant. lol

You've gotten yourself into a pickle, here.
Personally, I don't think you should've asked Bob if he liked you again.
That's just like picking at a scab that almost healed.

Just..leave the situation be.
The best thing to do right now is just wait.
Continue to be Bob's friend, but don't talk about romance [with him or any other boy] for a while.
