so i heard somewhere that Buddhism is not not really a religion but more of a lifestyle is that true?

^generally, but not necessarily because there are different branches. When I was a Buddhist, I simply followed the philosophy. There is no strict laws on how one worships/follows Buddhism (so long as you are faithful to the base rules and with the exception that you're not a monk).
