please read this for more info:

basically there are two options: we can have it the way it is now, where submitters are able to remove comments from their submissions or i can revoke their ability so that only staff can.

pros
-one less thing to "report" to the staff members for inappropriate content (ie bashing).

cons
-legitimate posts may be deleted because the submitters cant take criticisms
-its harder to point out its a "jocked" layout - since the submitter can remove the comment.

I understand the concern regarding jocked layouts and how a submitter could delete the comment that called them out, but that's definitely not an issue with official designers.

Thing is though .... it doesn't matter because so far any layout that has been reported has not been found through comments. Plus if we find it through comments the designer needs to PM us about it. If they can't take responsibility and take the mature route by PMing us then its staying anyway. So it doesn't matter if the comments gone. *shrugs*

Exactly. It doesn't matter if some of the comments get deleted.

I don't understand why people want us to lose control over the comments. There are absolutely no major problems with letting us delete them ourselves.

Close to a month ago, I was forced away from the internet for two weeks. I deactivated my messenger, and added an announcement to the top of all of my layout comments saying I couldn't provide help. People still posted, so when I got the brief opportunity to go online, I had to delete their comments to make sure my announcement would stay at the top, so that nobody would get mad at me for not answering their questions. I mean, I put an announcement in the instructions too, but obviously people don't read those too often.

The bottom line is that it would have caused a lot of drama if I hadn't have been able to do that.

And yesterday, I was helping someone, and I told him to PM me his code. But instead of PMing it, he posted it multiple times in the comments, trying to get it to work. My comments were spammed, and the helpful comments weren't visible. I had to delete them.

It's going to be ridiculous if I have to contact a moderator every time I need comments deleted, because I delete comments frequently. And I also have a feeling they won't do it in a very timely manner.

When I have contacted staff in the past with minor questions, my messages got ignored, so surely that means they must be busy. How will they have time to take control of this too?
