what sort of parent do you think you'll become? Options

pretty much what the title's about. what type/sort of parent do you think you'll become in the future if you aren't one now? even if you won't have children, imagine how you would probably raise your children.

ex:
do you think your methods will be completely different from your parents'? or will you raise your children similarly?

will you be a lenient parent or will you give them an amish-like lifestyle?

make them do a bunch of extra curriculars and whatnot, or let them run free!

what will your disciplinary style be..if you're going to have one?



dang that was long, guess i got carried away. well to answer my own question, i think i'm going to be raising my kids similarly to the way i was raised. i didn't turn out a disaster! well, i hope not? i'm going to be one of those parents promoting a social life with my kids...i don't want them to be social outcasts..

dang that was long, guess i got carried away. well to answer my own question, i think i'm going to be raising my kids similarly to the way i was raised. i didn't turn out a disaster! well, i hope not? i'm going to be one of those parents promoting a social life with my kids...i don't want them to be social outcasts..

Since I come from a strict heritage with a lot of morals, I'll be a strict parent. Make my kids do chores by the age of 10. My wife will make sure to teach her daughter how to clean the house, do the laundry, and wash the dishes, while I make sure my son gets into sports, martial arts, and weight training. And will throw out the garbage, cut the grass/rake leaves, and wash the cars.

My kids will NOT curse, or they'll be punished, they will not curse inside of our house, EVER.. I will approve of my daughter's clothing and will always have my wife check on her clothes till the day my daughter moves out of our home. Any skanky clothes will automatically be thrown out, and my daughter will be punished accordingly.

I will install spyware on their PC(s), and monitor everything they do online, they will NOT join group websites like forums and myspace nor blogs until they're in highschool, which will be monitored as well. I'll make sure to install a key logger so I can get all their passwords and access everything they access.

If they disobey me, I will cut off the internet from their room. Until I setup the proxy server correctly so that they may not be able to access the page ever again. The 2nd time they disobey me and join another sort of blog/forum/myspace-like website, I'll simply take their PC away from them.

As long as they follow and not break the rules, respect their elders, neighbors, and each other, as well as bring home nothing below a B (unless given a good reason, such as sick for too many days) I will spoil them, treat them good, and give them whatever else they need from me/us.

By the way, spanking isn't abusive... after 2 years old that is. That's how my family rolls, and that's how we keep control of our children till the point they grow up mature, healthy, and wise, with no lack of respect to anyone other than those who do not respect them.

I think I'll raise my children similarly, because my parents weren't too strict with me but still managed to teach me right from wrong. I will be different in the sense that I want to homeschool my children until they feel they are ready for "real" school.

I'll be fairly lenient, but not to the point where they can do whatever the hell they want. Again, I'll place emphasis on the Noble Eightfold Path and teach them about ahimsa (nonviolence) and all that good stuff. Hopefully, they won't even think of doing drugs or drinking; not because "OMG MOM WOULD KILL ME" but because it's harmful and unhealthy and just plain stupid. I want to teach them to be independent, so I'll teach them how to clean, do laundry, some light cooking, etc. Overall, I want them to make their own decisions because it's the right thing to do.

Ultimately, children are human beings too, and I am merely a guide. I want to expose them to everything I can: the arts, sports, reading, animals, etc, and then let them choose. I don't want to limit them in their opportunities in life, so I want to teach them that learning is a beautiful, wonderful process that should be done in every moment/second of life.

I believe the reason children act out is because they are not being engaged. We must listen to our children's words and actions and prevent any possible misbehavior through practical solutions.

Bottom line: I want my children to be the best people they can be and use the good they learn to make the world a better place.
