how do you use textures to make blends look like this?

You have to fiddle with the texture, as well as the coloring. All textures are different, so many you have to mess around with the layer blending modes, most popular being "Multiply", "Overlay", as well as "Soft Light".
There is no real way. it's basically a big game of fiddling. |
