just start playing around with html
if you dont know it, learn it before you go around and just pluck random html and place it in your xanga (or any site for that matter). learn css as well; its invaluable. after you actually know these two languages (and javascript doesnt hurt! but itll take a while to learn), start playing around and trying out different things. personally, i draw out my designs and everything by hand first then make the graphics and finally put it all together through html. hmm, but most people dont have time to do stuff like this so just download a skin if you just want a cool site quick
