Though I'm sure no one will believe me(I myself, a self-defined Atheist, rarely speak of this), I did have what I once believed to be a genuine spiritual experience. On seldom nights like this one where I find myself looking at my ceiling with my over-active mind racing, I sometimes think back to that day. I was in 8th grade and did something that many foolish children do when bored. I forced pressure to my head so that my face would turn purple, mainly to entertain people at my lunch table. What inevitably happened was I passed out. It felt like minutes but the people at the table said I had just put my head down for a second. I've written this experience in poem form because I cannot find any other way to describe what was happening. Whether you believe me or not is irrelevant(I try not to think of this too often because it threatens everything I've come to believe, that there is no God or higher spirit). The reason I wrote this out was to possibly halt my invariable return to a memory I would soon like to forget, and to also forget the obvious foretelling of what may happen to me. This poem has no title, it's not meant for amusement. This is simply the only way I was able to put this experience into words.

I am falling.

The wonderous sound of a choir can be heard
Staggering in volume and number, creating one ceaseless note.
That gives praise to their God eternally
That rejoices over those who've entered paradise
And mourns those who've failed His trials.

I am falling.

No body or vessel do I now inhabit
Yet through powers of soul and will I can see.
A void envelopes me in shades of black and trailing white.
The music once deafening becomes distant.
No voice to cry from, to beg redemption.

I am falling.
