Um, this is so confusing.
Can anyone help me out? ![]() Okay, here's the problem.. You have 8 balls, all of which look exactly the same. Seven of these weigh the same, and one is either heavier or lighter than the others. You have a balance scale. Tell how you can find the odd ball in at most three weighings, and explain how you can decide whether the odd ball is heavier than the others, or whether it is lighter than the others. I don't even get the question. ![]() |

Hopefully, this quick illustration will help. The red ball indicates the other ball. However, this illustration shows the red ball as the heavier ball. I'm sure you can imagine it weighing less, if it happens to be so.
