moving pasted objects in photoshop? Options

OK, I'm going to try to explain this - every time I paste something onto a image in Photoshop, the pasted object goes directly in the center of the image, and most times, I don't want it there. I can't figure out how to move the objects though. I've tried to use the hand tool, but no luck. I can't get the objects to budge! And this is right after they are pasted, while they are still selected and I havent clicked off of them. Anyone understand all that? Any help would be great
