It drives me nuts when people think that because the jeans are named "skinny" then they should only be worn by skinny people. Not true at all! Curvacious women are totally encouraged to show and be proud of their curves. I wear skinny jeans and I'm not a stick. Now, you need to know how to wear them... skinny jeans can look bad on skinny people if they don't wear them properly.

How you should wear skinny jeans if you're curvy (my opinion):
- No visible pockets on your thighs. Meaning, none of those pockets with flaps. Actually, any extra detail on the thigh area is a no-no. Your thighs will be put under a magnifying glass. Or pockets with flaps on your butt, for that matter. - Or pleats. Right now I'm thinking of Jessica Simpson's monstrosity, although they're high-waisted jeans. And not skinny. But you can see how they're not flattering at all: http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2005713342223652937 - For the love of God, do not buy ANY jeans without a back pocket. You will have an ass the size of Texas. Be wary of the positioning of the back pocket, also. Let the pockets sit so they "cup" your butt on the fleshy part. Any lower and the pockets'll reach your thighs (not flattering). Any higher and you'll look like you have a giant ass. This is sometimes even worse than no back pocket at all. - No "painted on" skinny jeans. There's a difference between that and tapered. You want a pant that follows the line of your leg and tapers slightly at the ankle, not one that clings so tightly that you can't breathe. Skinny jeans don't have to be amazingly tight. - Go for a darker wash. Even black would work. - Like someone else suggested, wear a looser-fitting top. This works to balance out any outfit; have wide-leg pants? Wear a more fitted top. Flowy skirt? Skip the flowy blouse and try a camisole. So, you have skinny jeans? Wearing a floatier top. It'll balance you out, and helps to hide anything else you may want to cover up. - Oh, very important thing...don't wear chunky shoes with your skinny jeans! It's not a great idea for the pants to bunch up too much when you wear them over a bigger shoe, like Nike Dunks or something. Chucks and Vans work well for casual looks, flats are great for being slightly more dressy and pumps are very sexy. Boots would work, but if you're short as well, I wouldn't advise it. Anything that cuts of the line of your leg will make your legs shorter, hence, making your whole body look shorter. Wow, that was long. Okay, so this picture of Mischa isn't of her in skinny jeans, but I'd like to share anyway. ![]() WTF? Even Mischa Barton looks like a cow in those pants. LOSE THEM. |
