Strangely, I always had an irking feeling that something tragic would happen on a college campus. Given all the protests, the occasional riot, the bomb threats that happened infrequently; all thanks to young men and women struggling to find themselves in a world where beliefs clash. I don't know what this guy's motives were, but the likelihood of it happening (on any college campus where people push the lines of extremism), has always been pretty high.
In a situation like this, what do you do? Lock down a college campus like a military base? Set up gate guards and ahve metal detectors? Make people carry clear backpacks and wear uniforms? Cut back on political activism and multiculturalism? What can you do? I had a Glock 22 in college (and in high school), but it certainly wasn't for a killing spree, it was in case karma kicked in or if something incredibly scary happened. |
