ok lets try this again.
i hope this is the right category.

i'm just trying to figure out if i'm on the right track with making layouts the correct way.
my graphic skills are basic so there wont be none of that advanced stuff til later.

my layout

the left bar will be for navigation & whatever else I can think of.
the bottom will be for a scrolling friends list.
& of course the main box will be for my content.

so um...what do you think so far?

Um ... You're planning on coding this ... Right? If so, I'd suggest taking out the contents of the box directly below the banner. You could use sandbag dives to make the text wrap around the image, but that would be just a bit difficult.

The other thing is that this particular layout might look better as just two columns, no scrollbars. So if the two boxes extended and you had a background that would make it seem like it stretched, it'd be easier to navigate. If you really, really wanted that third box, I'd still take the bottom-most box out.

Then, you could leave the content of the box under the banner in, and put the third box next to it. That one would scroll, and then you'd have content underneath also. It cuts down on the scrollbars, which make the page busy and hard to navigate.

Or you could ignore me altogether.
