Did anyone bend your future career to something else?

Recently, my private teacher and i were talking about my future, when we were doing some real old basic algebra problems. Unfortunately, I'm not good in math. Yeah, I had a hard time working/thinking w/ these problems.

Man, i was sad. I wanted to become a space scientist after high school. I spoke to my teacher about my major and college. I thought it would be fun talking t o her about it because science is my passion. i always enjoyed science since i was a little elementary school kid. I told her that i want to major in astronomy and other astro-classes. She says, "... but, Steven. This is too hard for you. You need to know a lot of math... Most of my student w/ the same service as you didn't finish college or drop out of school"

When she mentioned "service", it's for people who have certain learning disabilities like me.

It's true that science requires a lot of math. Math is a subject that I lack/struggle the most in.

Yeah, I'm sort of depressed. All my passion for things in life is always being blown away. I don't want to end up like any teacher who once say, "I didn't really want to be a teacher, i planned to be someone else but I wasn't qualify for it/ didn't have money for it/ government problems/ something went wrong, and etc.

You shouldnt let just one opinion shoot you down like that. Anything's possible! Wouldnt a Space Scientist require just as much, if not more Science than actual Math?

My parents pretty much shot down and killed my idea of being a oncologist or any type of doctor. They think I'm too lazy, and just not cut out for it. Now I've lowered myself down to wanting to get my Bachelors in Nursing, and that's still not a good idea in their eyes. My dad wants me to major in either Engineering or something Buisness related... and my Mom's even worse. Last week she said "Well what about being a dental hygenist? You would only have to go to school for a year and your uncle would hire you!" She doesnt even think I'm capable of being a Nurse. stubborn.gif

And, they've shot down my ideas for college too. My grades are decent, and my test scores are pretty high... and I really dont want to go to a public college. I would ideally like to go to a private college that's less than 10 minutes away, but my parents blew up on me when I brought it up. They went on and on about how they couldnt afford to pay 20k a year for school, and there's no way I'd be able to either. Its like, hello?!? Its called scholarships and student LOANS. I'll be damned if I'll drive 30 minutes each way, spend a freaking hour trying to find a parking spot, and get less of an education just to save a little money.

Its depressing. They dont think I'm capable of obtaining my DREAM job. Maybe I'm really not capable? ermm.gif
