It may be a stupid question to ask considering the average age of cBers here but has anyone done or is currently doing research? As in working with an organization or in a professor's lab and helping with their research?

Yes, I was actually recently awarded a research position for this summer at my university. I'll be working on a module for one of my professor's wireless networking simulators. Basically, I'm writing a component to help with the efficiency of the simulator.
The great thing is that we are almost definitely going to publish a paper based on the research, and I'll get to attach my name as a co-author if that happens, which will be really exciting. I'm hoping to go into research as a career. I want to enter into a Ph.D. program after I graduate, with the goal of eventually becoming a professor of computer science. Working in the corporate sector would probably make more money, but working in academia is a lot more rewarding. Short-term, the research is already proving fruitful. At any rate, I get access to source code and a 32-processor cluster computer, so no complaints there. ![]() |
