What's the most frustratingly ignorant thing someone asked you or said about your religion/culture/group/etc.?
In my case, in relation to religion, a Catholic girl came up to me and asked: "Jewish people don't believe in God, right?" After explaining to her that Jewish people began the entire 'God-fearing-people' trend, she remarked: "Oh, so you believe in Jesus?" I responded by threatening to stab her in the jaw. Any similar stories? Edit: Also, if you didn't get the title, you may qualify to be ignorant yourself. Jewish = religion. Hebrew = language. Come on, now. I think the most offensive thing that someone can say about me and my family is the whole Nazi crap. I live in a predominately German and Polish place, but lately we've become much much more diverse. When people find out my last name they ask if I'm German and when I answer yes I've had people say "Omg, did you have Nazi's in your family". I find it to be VERY rude.

I know how that feels. ![]() Except, people dont know I'm German until I tell them. My dad came to the US when he was 18. But anyways, people usually end up offending me without them knowing it. People at my school are constantly running around reffering to other people as Nazi's. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. So the other day, I stood up for myself in a front of a few people and told them to stfu, because I'm German - and my family's from East Germany. And that a crapload of my family DIED as a result of Nazi's. Then this one guy was like - "But I thought you're family was Jewish?" And I was like - "Yeah, my Dad's family's Jewish AND East German." And then he says - "OMFG. So your Nazi relatives killed your Jewish ones??!?!!? Now what am I supposed to call you?" ![]() And then there was this other time a few years ago when we had a guest speaker... I think it was Holocaust Rememberance Day. Our speaker was Jewish, and had been in a concentration camp as a child... and he told his story, about what it was like, and how his family died. Then after he was done speaking, the school's Pastor (its a Christian school) finished speaking and has the nerve to say that he hoped his family had a chance to know the Lord, implying that if they didnt, that they're in Hell. ![]() ah yes. her:"so like, you know you're going to hell right?" me: "well, actually, jews don't believe in hell." her: "but you don't believe in jesus, so you're going to hell!" me: "no. not so much" her: "dont say I didn't warn you when you burn in hell for all of eternity!" yeah, I'm jewish too. Some people are so ignorant. ![]() |

Why would your school have a guest speaker who's Jewish, esspecially if they were going to insult them afterwards? There was this kid in one of my study halls who annoyed me because he'd always ask me "How tall is the grass in Germany?" and I'd tell him stfu 'cause I knew what he was going to do and he goes "This tall" and does the Nazi salute. At the Alt School they did a project on the Holocaust and the teacher had all the kids stand up and she called off nationalities like Irish, English, etc. until only people with German in their blood were standing and she said "See, those of you sitting down would've died in the Holocaust and those standing would've lived". It amazed me how ignorant a teacher could be. "Hey. Are you Mexican?" "Umm...no. I'm hispanic, though. Nicaraguence to be exact." "Ooh. Did you cross the border?" "...does it LOOK like it?" "Well you said you were Mexican." I have hispanic friends who get this alot. I also have some hispanic friends who don't speak Spanish and people always assume they do. |

QUOTE Wow, that's horrible. Why would your school have a guest speaker who's Jewish, esspecially if they were going to insult them afterwards? Well, he just said that he hoped they all knew their savior. He didnt actually say then that they're going to hell, but he has in our weekly chapel services. God that pisses me off. ![]() But I think the main reason why he was there was because the European History teacher at the time was really into Jewish culture... and originally he was just going to be a speaker for her class. But instead they crammed 7th-12th in the church to hear him. Which was nice, because I enjoyed listening to him. QUOTE There was this kid in one of my study halls who annoyed me because he'd always ask me "How tall is the grass in Germany?" and I'd tell him stfu 'cause I knew what he was going to do and he goes "This tall" and does the Nazi salute. Woah, I've never heard that one. That's terrible though. There used to be this Indian kid who got b**** slaped by the German foriegn exchange student because he went up to him and said "Hail your leader" in German and did the salute, just like Hitler would do. I think that was the last racist joke he ever made. ![]() QUOTE At the Alt School they did a project on the Holocaust and the teacher had all the kids stand up and she called off nationalities like Irish, English, etc. until only people with German in their blood were standing and she said "See, those of you sitting down would've died in the Holocaust and those standing would've lived". It amazed me how ignorant a teacher could be. Are you serious? My God that's ignorant. Just because someone was a normal German didnt mean they were immune to everything. Yeah, they werent in concentration camps, but many people had their houses bombed, and were trapped in East Germany until 1990. And there were little to no English and Irish people that would have been anywhere near Germany at that time, so how is that even fair to say? Geez. ![]() |
