but I was hoping for the text to be smaller and I had really wanted a background image aswell as a header
also I wanted the entry boxes in blue not white not to mention I wanted a different date layout...but I didn't know how to do that

I have a few questions before I can figure out how to help you.. First, are you using the S1 or S2 style system, and what premade layout are you using? The reason I'm asking is because I cannot achieve exactly what you have on your livejournal with the exact coding you have provided with any of the S1 premade layouts (I'm talking about the four dropdowns under layout here).

Second, under the theme on that very page, are custom colors selected? Are all of them blank? (I'm guessing that this is why your entry boxes are white, but again, I'm not entirely sure).

Once you answer those, I'll try to recode your layout (or find the errors).
