Well, I think grammar mistakes in speaking are inevitable.
I fall victim of saying words like "You was" or "He don't" all the time because I tend to mix up singular and plural when I am talking. Especially in an unprepared speech when I am nervous, my grammar is really screwed up. At least I will try to speak in proper grammar during formal interviews, etc. How about you, do you speak in proper grammar? |

Yeah, all the time. Just today, my counsellor praised my good grammar (she asked me "How are you?" and I replied with "I'm doing well", whereas most people would say "I'm doing good"). I have a serious pet peeve with well/good.

I have a serious pet peeve with well/good. I have to agree with this, though you spelled "counselor" wrong. ![]() But it's okay. I have this pet peeve with "well/good" too, but I think "should/could of" is a bigger pet peeve for me. IT'S "SHOULD HAVE" and "COULD HAVE" AND IT SHOULD BE FOLLOWED WITH A PAST PARTICIPLE. Who the heck puts a preposition after "should/could"? ![]() Also, this phrase is a pet peeve for me too, for example, "I ate already." It's "I have eaten already." I have always thought that the past participle is being used less and less in speaking. |

Counselor and counsellor. =) Oh, and if this is about spoken grammar, then "should of" and "should have" shouldn't be too big of a problem, since words tend to get dropped or mushed together when spoken quickly. I think it's more of a written pet peeve for me. Another written one that gets me is "alot". "Alot" is two words, people. A. Lot. |
