my parents were gone this week, and while they were gone, our furnace stopped working - and though our neighbor got it on again, it dropped to 38 degrees in our house. while i was at school on thursday, our water line broke and flooded the basement. not really standing water, but the carpet and pad underneath were completely saturated. three rooms in our basement have now been torn apart - floors are out, and part of the ceiling. it's pretty bad, and really made my weekend suck. has this ever happened to anyone else?

It has never happened to me before because I have never lived in a house with basement and that the temperature in LA isn't that bad.
