My friend did a very, very long essay recently on the correlation between one's height and one's success in the world of employment. Studies have shown that generally, the taller you are, the better your chances are of getting hired or moving up.
So you know how employers are supposed to hire you wihout considering race, ethnicity, disabilities, etc.? Well, do you think that despite that, there's stilll some bias leaning toward how attractive you are? To be completely honest, I believe that generally, life is easier when your attractive. It doesn't guarentee you success at all, just as the opposite doesn't mean failure, but I know some very, very popular stores who will only hire people who "fit their image." ![]() ![]() |

Studies have shown that generally, the taller you are, the better your chances are of getting hired or moving up. Indeed. It's undeniable that people are going to make biases when promoting people. If you look at a lot of the CEOs of companies you'll note that a nice portion of them are relatively tall. It's not only bias because of height either; decisions are still made with influence from a person's ethnicity, gender, and other appearances. Because our society is so visual based. For one, there was president Warren Harding. Chances are, people were making quick judgments about him based on appearances when voting for him into office. People agreed that he certainly looked like a great president (not to mention, tall) however, after he died he was considered one of the least successful presidents in history. |
