Question of the Moment: For those that do not blog on a regular basis, what keeps you coming back to createblog?

For the newer members who may not recognize this, I need to introduce this. QotM means Question of the Moment. It was a task I adopted back when I still moderated these boards. It originally started out as Question of the Day by micron, but micron never really followed up on that, so I picked it up and asked every once in a while. I guess its purpose has now been overshadowed by the Feedback section, but I feel it's appropriate in this case.

For the older members who remember this: you may find this question similar; as far as I can remember, it's pretty much the same question I asked for the last QotM.

However, my answer has changed. I think in the last round, I said something along the lines of "staying for the vibrant community." I resigned from my position on staff, and from these boards last time, because I wasn't a blogger and there was no reason for me to come back here. I left for some time, and funnily enough, I started a blog. It started off pretty slow, but at one point, I was getting hundreds of visitors. But I quit that because I felt I had started "preaching to the choir" (actually, almost literally) and also for the reasons why I quite blogging in the first place.

I found some other great forums that I went too. Unfortunately, both experienced downtime so I was left without an eHome. I lurked for a little while, saw people come and go and watched the last two forums I enjoyed the most turn to crap. Most of the posts in debate are either paraphrased from wikipedia, pseudo intellectual rants, or someone just giving their two cents and leaving. Tech has been reduced to fanboy flamewars and people asking for free photoshop. The locker rooms and relationships have always been a joke, but the lounge was semi entertaining at first, but now it's filled with inane topics, people getting easily offended and useless cliques and clubs.

I eventually came back and learned quickly, via the new "Internet: Serious Business Moderating Team™", that I wasn't really welcome back. Makes sense, I think the only person here left that really knows is krnxswat (although I've been pleasantly surprised to see some familiar names pop up once in a while).

The worst part is, I really would have liked to believe it was myself that changed for the worse. I mean, I used to type long and thought out responses like this instead of sarcastic one liners. But I realized on only changed in response to cB changing. cB was the common denominator in everyone else I respected leaving.

So cB, do you still have funny, entertaining and intellectual discussions in you? Are you bad enough dudes to rescue the president? Or has this place changed so much that if I try to crack an inside joke, my topics get closed?

In any case, for those that read this far, thank you. I'm really interested in knowing if there is anyone else that doesn't blog here, but still stays. Maybe there's something here that I'm overlooking.

Believe it or not, when I first came here I used to respond in ridiculously long posts. At the same time, I was a total blogger whore. What I found was that no one was really listening/reading, particularly my Xanga. I was going through in an incredibly rough time and all people could do was read the first two sentences, maybe the last sentence to get the punchline, if you will and respond with "awww, you'll he ok" or "I will pray for you." Crap like that really bothers me. I'd rather have no responses at all than to have those types of replies.

As far as shortening my responses here, I don't have much of a valid excuse, other than I simply became busier. I also became a moderator and at first felt like I had to keep things in order (which I know is a HORRIBLE way of thinking about it, I know that now) so I stopped posting as well as I once had.

I also had a wake up call. Actually, I've had a number of them which always ends up with me coming to the realization that things get can get a little wacky, people can have fun and such and I can just let it be. There's no need to get all trigger happy with the closings, warnings, etc.

Lately what I've been trying to do is go through the forums, all of the forums and find those few precious threads that have something I can chew on. I think that part of the lack of any real substance (for the most part, certainly not everyone posts without any substance) is that we have so many lighthearted threads. While this is a good thing, and it's great we can have fun here, it would also be great to be able to get into something deeper, perhaps have more provocative posts and responses.

Back to the blogging thing. I miss it. I miss it terribly. I can't leave journals and what not around the house because without fail they will be read. Being the only person in generations of family history to not have the same religious affiliation, I felt comfortable having my little online place to post blogs. I seriously need to start that up again. It's funny too because I felt like the place, in this case, Xanga needed to be like me. It needed to reflect who I was somehow. Somewhat like how your room is decorated to your liking and it feels like home. Sunday mornings I used to make a cup of coffee, sit down at my blog and just type away.

PS Yes, I realize that I use too many commas and that I don't always use them appropriately. I apologize. cool.gif

Also - I read the entire post, non-Brit James.

I hope so. And I think you know I've come to an understanding regarding the last part. :)
