boy problem i suppose, this is kinda long, sorry. Options

okay, so my best friend is a guy. we have been best friends since freshmen year of high school, we are now juniors.

since the summer, we have been closer emotionally. during 10th grade, we were just like friends, but this year we are a little more involved, i guess you could say. like, there is more flirting, but nothing serious.

he jokes a lot about stuff, which is okay sometimes but there are times where i can never tell if he is serious.

lately he has been teasing me a lot about me liking him. for instance, the other day he told me that if i liked him, we would have to go out. and then today he said something like since we have been friends for so long, we have to start dating.

for a while, i really did like him. i pretty much thought about him all the time. but i never told him, i am really shy and thought it would make our relationship too awkward.

lately, i haven't really had those feelings. sure, he is cute. but i kinda thought trying anything else would be too risky. that was, until he started telling me all that stuff in the 4th paragraph.

so, with the urging of a few of my friends, i decided to ask him if he meant it. but i did it over AIM. i asked him if he meant what he said and he said "i guess. why?" then he goes "i knew you always liked me." i, of course, denied it.

then i kinda started getting mad at him for saying things that he didn't mean and he was annoyed because supposedly i was making it awkward. i accused him of not caring whether or not i liked him. and then he finally just signed off.

all i really wanted to know was if it really did matter if i liked him. i didn't expect him to like me or anything like that. but i guess maybe since i didn't actually admit i liked him, it didn't matter.

i don't have any way to contact him right now to know what he is feeling, and it probably is too soon anyway. but since i stupidly chose to do this over AIM i can't tell how he felt about any of it. i couldn't tell his tone or is reactions.

He teases you about the subject making you
unsure what his feelings are towards you.
You = like him but want to know his feelings towards this..
Him= somewhat immature about the whole thing
and just continues to tease you about what your feelings are to him?

Gaaaaaah.. But from the reaction he seemed to give from the aim convo..
It sounds like he wants to know whether you feel any feelings for him.
That I get for sure.. Hmmm maybe he wants you guys to be something?

You like this guy for sure correct? @.@ If you do then perhaps
all you need to do is sort it out with him in person if you want to be with him.
But if you feel like you rather keep your friendship with him maybe
it's best if you tell him as best as you can that you
don't appreciate him joking around like that and rather just keep it as friends.

Ahhhh.. It all depends on you and what direction
you want to take this boy problem into.
