I dont know if it's okay to masturbate when you're a Christian. Is it? or Is it wrong? Just wondering because i have a Christian friend who masturbates. Oh and to the non- Christians out there i wanna know what you think too!

The Bible teaches you to be a good person. If masturbating is something you enjoy or it helps you calm down, then go for it. It's not hurting anyone, and it's actually good for you.
The Bible may have said not to masturbate, but they did not have the medical research back then to know what we know now. I'm sure if Jesus or the apostles had had the resources to find out the truth about masturbation, they would have wanted you to do it. It all depends whether you take the Bible 100% literally, even though we live in a modern world, or if you're willing to take it a little more liberally, and just try to be a good person (which makes more sense to me, personally). If you take it all literally, you'll think masturbation is a sin, being homosexual is a sin, and if a maiden kisses a lad before marriage you must kill 3 of their goats. Note the sarcasm. If you take it liberally, you'll think masturbation is okay, you'll know that scientifically being homosexual is in our genes, and is no more punishable than having blonde hair, and that the Bible, when applied to this day and age, should just be interpreted as "you should be a good person". Sorry for the long post! Good luck figuring out your religious beliefs. You're lightyears ahead of most people for even *thinking* about this stuff; good for you. Oh-- here's another way to think about it: Jesus gave you a brain so you could USE it. So think: Your friend masturbates and it helps her feel good. She's not hurting anyone or anything, it just helps her feel good. Is that really something that YOU feel is a sin? |

its not necessarily oppinion. it's fact. Can you please refrain from forcing your opinions onto others in such a manner? Seriously, not the best route to take when you're trying to prove a point. Oh-- here's another way to think about it: Jesus gave you a brain so you could USE it. So think: Your friend masturbates and it helps her feel good. She's not hurting anyone or anything, it just helps her feel good. Is that really something that YOU feel is a sin? Let's clarify the definition of sin, shall we? You can sin without hurting anyone or anything. Sinning is just the act of violating the laws of God. Though the Bible doesn't specifically say anything regarding masturbation, I think we can also use our brains here to make connections. In the Bible, it is a sin to have impure thoughts, namely sexual fantasies, that are often linked to masturbation. So you say that you don't have fantasies, does this mean you are still sinning? Yes. In 1st Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? Therefore honor God with your body." So if we are suppose to use our bodies to honor or glorify the Lord, I'm pretty sure that masturbation does not fall into that category. Therefore, the absence of honoring God with your body deems masturbation a sin. Not to mention, masturbation is like a lie. It starts out with one small thing, but then it gradually increases to a couple and becomes easier to ignore the feeling of guilt. When something begins to control you, this is a sin. *Please note that these are my morals, the beliefs I am taught. I'd appreciate your willingness to be open to my ideas, just as I will be to yours.
