I think it is very lame.
Like seriously..it's all the same!! pinch.gif

Except for Eminem (before he retired). He is an exception in my opinion.

Well, I sort of agree seeing as it's not my personal preference, so of course I think it's "lame." I don't need to "back up what I say" either. That's my opinion. If you don't like it, don't read it.

I can't deny that I do like Tupac and Eminem, but those are the only two that I've ever actually liked. Rap, to me, is just silly. I just don't find it worth my while. I have listened to some indie type rap, and sure, the lyrics are a little more meaningful, but it's the same fast talk, boom boom stuff that's on the radio. The same essence of rap is there. My personal preference isn't that style. I do however like a little R&B and hip hop, but that's another topic for another day. wink.gif

I can see where you get the idea that it's "all the same" because, essentially, it is. There aren't any subcategories for rap like there is for, say, rock music. Rap is just rap. The beats, the booms, the fast talk, and that's it. Rap will always just be rap no matter who's rhyming. Rock (I'm just using this type of music because it's what I'm most familiar with) has classic, soft, metal, hard, indie, pop, punk, etc. That's why you don't really ever hear any rock music that "sounds the same." So, since rap is just that, rap, there really isn't a lot of room to sound different. Now, I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but that's how it is.

How are all the other genres doing something revolutionary or different nowadays? I aksed this in another thread but never got an answer. So tell me how is other music genres not the same?
Sorry KC, but you asked the wrong question. You should have asked why isn't any genre doing something revolutionary or different nowadays? That's the problem, it seems, with all music nowadays. There isn't anything revolutionary going on. Even if there is something newer that starts to catch attention, every band and artist jumps on the band wagon, so to speak, and tries to follow the leader into stardom. Just as it seems the latest trend with rap is to talk about bitches, hoes, and getting some head from your local shorty, rock seems to be on the trend of singing about emotional, psychological, and relationship problems. It's all relative, honestly. Not to mention the fact that anything revolutionary that does come up gets played out on the radio within a few weeks and people already want to move on to something new. Bottom line is that music as a whole needs to change. Unfortunately, anything that gets any artist a quick buck, they'll continue with it. Why would they change if it's paying for their Caddy fine just the way it is?

Now, I have to go ahead and say this, haha, but that's why I like the band Brand New. Despite the fact that all their music has been very successful, every CD they've released has been different and had its own sound and style different from the last. Instead of keeping the same old sound that worked the last time, they take a risk and try to change rock. That's what love about them. They have their own sound and style and they're keeping rock music fresh. They do that while remaining successful and growing in popularity by the thousands everyday.

Hope that helps shed some light. thumbsup.gif
