Oh snap son, get to work. Get out that veto stamp George, start the impeachment investigations, the filibusters, the blame game and all that lovely stuff.

^ I dont think i've heard of too many Irish guys actually doing that. I think most people who have had family here for awhile would want to find their roots in America, not elsewhere. I dont know. Maybe I'm wrong.
But if he was taking too much time off the job to do so, then yeah. I meant that from what I've seen/heard, he's taken alot of time off to take several trips. It doesnt bother me where he's going, or what his nationality is. Its the fact that he claims to be "finding his roots" when he's supposed to be on the job. I'm sorry if I came off as sounding racist. I guess I just wasnt being too clear on what I was trying to say. |

JFK did it. And Obama went to Africa as a representative from the US Congress. It just so happens to be that his dad is from Kenya. Don't be so quick to judge. Really? Thats almost funny. Did you even bother to read that as a result of Kennedy joining with the Irish president, a foundation that has raised over $300 million was formed? I didnt say that no one like that hasnt. I didnt realize that his father was actually from Kenya, but I dont think that makes a difference. I dont think our country has really benefited from him going, even though WE are paying for it. Its understandable for someone to want to visit where they are from, but its something that he should pay for. Plus, he has to be taking alot of time off from the job to do so. "The African journeys of Sen. Barack Obama are paid for by U.S. taxpayers who foot the bills for hotels, food, ground transportation, commercial plane rides, military aircraft put at his disposal and Navy escorts who accompany him wherever he goes." |

That's besides the point. You said you hadn't heard of any Irish people looking to establish their roots.I didnt say that no one like that hasnt. Obama has only visited Africa once as a congressman, the other two trips were when he was young and when he got engaged. This last trip was 15 days, but he technically wasn't taking time off as he is a part of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee panel on African Affairs. Besides that, a lot of politicians travel, it's a part of the job. And who did you think paid for Kennedy to travel to Ireland? |

There's nothing wrong with traveling, I just dont feel like he had a reason to the way he has. The governemnt (our tax dollars) has had to pay for it. Who cares who paid for Kennedy's. I know we did, but still. He started a foundation and in return has raised over $300 million. What has made Obamas trips worthwile? Arghh. Why are we arguing over him when the topic was originally about Democrats winning the Senate and House. |

Why are we arguing over him when the topic was originally about Democrats winning the Senate and House. Well, the $300 million has been raised for about thirty years. Obama's only been a Senator for two years. Obama's trip to Africa is extremely important; he's helping to re-establish diplomatic ties with oft-ignored African countries. Who knows, this could be the first step in "solving" (and I use this term extremely loosely) the problem in Darfur. |
