what are the pros and cons of entering a beauty pageant?

well i got this off a site here.
QUOTE
PROS:

-The award of scholarship money

-Women aren't forced to do this if they don't want to, but if they do, it's a great way to get a scholarship.

-Other scholarships are only to really smart people, so now more "average" intelligence women have an opportunity.

CONS:

-Women win the pageant based majorly on their looks. Sure, there's some talent/congeniality portions, but no woman has a chance of ever winning if she's ugly.

-It's not an equal opportunity to everyone. These woman work out so much so they can look good in their swim suits, but a person with little money doesn't always have the ability to train as well. Most of the contestants have personal trainers, which are very expensive.

-They create the American public's view of beauty: tall, skinny, looks in in a swimsuit and fancy gown.

-How much are they really judged on intelligence or need? Barely.

-The questions they're asked in their interview are a joke. The women prepare their answers ahead of time and few of them probably even know what they're talking about or feel that strongly about whatever they're talking about. They just say what they think will lead to a victory.

So I guess overall, I don't see the importance of beauty pageants. I think things like this are what lead to the high rates of anorexia, bulimia, and plastic surgery in today's society. The public thinks they're worthless unless they look like celebrities, models, and women in pageants. You'll never see an overweight woman in a pageant. And they don't have peageants like these for males (as far as I'm aware of). We live in a pretty sexist world in which one way to easily succeed is beauty.

I pretty much half and half on this in my opinion, not to mention that being a beauty queen carries a lot of responsibilities. Don't be too quick to judge until you've walked a mile in there shoes, and in this case a beauty queen's high heels. It's not easy to look good, visit hospitals, raise money for charities, having all eyes on you being gracefull, and always having to smile. Miss Universe travels thousands of airmiles every year just to do that. And if you still don't have a clue of Miss Universe's job, just visit this site. and click on "a year in the life"

hope this helps you out a bit =]
