I just watched G4techtv ATTACK OF THE SHOW in Japan. And they had a small segment of phones in japan, thought i would share with those that werent able to see it.
![]() Vodafone 905SH The Vodafone 905SH is one of the coolest phones that I saw in Japan. It looks like a standard flip phone with a huge 2.9-inch screen that’s based on Sharp’s Aquos technology. What’s really cool is that the screen pivots from portrait to landscape mode, which is great for enjoying the phone’s most awesome feature: the ability to watch live TV! This baby is a multimedia workhorse. In landscape mode, the 2.9-inch screen lets you watch TV and video in 16:9, it also has Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, and a MiniSD slot. Biometric security is huge in Japan, and the Vodafone 905SH has face recognition software. You take a photo of yourself to unlock it! How cool is that? *2.9-inch Aquos Screen by Sharp *16:9 aspect ratio *Has a face recognition screen for biometric security *You can watch live TV with it *2-megapixcel camera ITS SO AWESOME. i want it. they mentioned the latest in japanese phones were: * Live TV * The barcode checker, on every ad or magazine or product advertising there is a small box which squiggly lines in it that acts as a barcode, you take a picture with your phone and you are sent information about that product. They showed the tv actually playing and it looked great, it wasnt staticy at all i was suprized. I am so jealous. I tried to look up the other phones they had on G4 but i couldnt find any pictures on them. WHY does japan have all this advanced crap and we get excited by have 100 songs on our damn phones. and our freakin 1.3 megapixels. They got face recognition, our phones wouldnt know our face from a dogs A** lol. |

I don't really see the usefulness. I use a cellphone to make phone calls, not listen to music or watch videos or live TV. Sure, it looks cool at first, but is it really that useful?

So having an MP3 player, web browser, TV, camera, Instant Messenger, E-Mail, etc. all in your pocket isn't useful? That's odd. |

So having an MP3 player, web browser, TV, camera, Instant Messenger, E-Mail, etc. all in your pocket isn't useful? That's odd. Not really. First of all, phones aren't very good for web browsing, instant messaging, emailing, and so forth—that's what computers are for. A phone is good for making phone calls. Why would I want to go to the pain of IMing someone from a phone (not a pretty task, even on the best of phones) when I could just call or text message him? Moreover, it's not really a lot of fun to read email or web pages on a phone. Furthermore, an MP3 player? I'd rather have a dedicated device—why would I want to drain the battery of my phone listening to songs? And the TV thing is obvious—again, a small screen, and when am I going to have a burning need to watch TV and only have access to my phone? Camera? Okay, reasonably useful, but I could still definitely go without even that. |

I know where your coming from, your the person that just wants a really good phone, but then again i find it really useful to have internet on our phones, today i had class and it was cancelled and i found out through checking my email on my phone, my phone isnt the best phone for viewing emails but i was able to get my assignment off of it. Other things like camera are useful cause i used to bring my camera everywhere until i got a bigger and better one. And for music player its just an add on for me cause i already have an mp3. What im trying to say is that i would usually bring all this stuff with me but its good that its all packed in to one device, i think its good they do this cause its very useful and convenient. There are even some people who use their camera phones seriously and actually print out their pictures, cause they dont have an actual digital camera or they just cant afford one. And as for phones being able to browse the internet and emailing, iming, they are getting much better. They are getting faster and easier to use as new phones come out, i have a decent phone right now that was only 50 bucks, its my cheap "right now" phone so i can wait for a new better one to come out that suits my needs. |
