Death jokes have really never bothered me before. I mean, people say them all the time. Someone goes "Hey, where's Bob?" and somebody else goes "Oh, he died" and you laugh it off because you know he didn't really die. Just little light stuff like that seems to come out so casually, that when something serious happens... you either belittle it or treat it like a joke.
Apparently, one of my teachers died over the summer while he was on his honeymoon. In class, I noticed I haven't seen him around, so I was like "Hey, where is he?" And my friend was like "Oh, he died." And I didn't say anything because I thought he was kidding. It turned out that he wasn't, but the way he said it was like the death jokes people make every single day. I guess I'm being overly emotional right now because my teacher's death was shocking and incredibly sad. But, sometimes,... I think people should really learn to think before they speak and stop making serious issues into something to laugh about. Because it's not funny. At all. Okay... had to get that out |

Truth.com.
This happened to me 3 times this year. Someone told me cousin died and my initial reaction was "are you serious?!", but of course! But the fact that people play like that is something I am used to. Well 2 of my associates died this year also and 2 of my friends told me, I said "omfg don't play like that" I took it as a joke at first. I text messaged it to my friend and she said "omg that is so cool." I asked her if she was serious and if so that was very immature. She said she thought I was just bullshittin. Nope. So, I don't play like that anymore. Death is joked around with a lot. Great post, great observation. |
