Hey all. I'm in a book club called Chick Lit, and as you tell by the title, we're more into literature with females playing the lead role. We need new ideas for our next book, but I just know someone is going to pick a "chick lit" book that's going to be completely girly and that doesn't have any substance. What I'm looking for is a book that does have a female lead role, but actually has substance and meaning. You know, something that's really deep, kind of like the book Speak. Oh, and it can't be part of a sequel. Any ideas? Any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks.

QUOTE Oh, I forgot about the Shopaholic Series. My friend recommended it to me and said it was really funny, and she's a hard to please kind of person . And I agree - Meg Cabot is an excellent writer, although I sometimes find her endings are a bit too happy and perfect for my tastes. But not all of them. Thanks for the recommendations everyone . We ended up choosing The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, but I'll keep these in mind for next month's book. |

Oh, sweet. I was looking into some of her poetry, and I recently saw the movie Sylvia that's based on her life. Gwenyth Paltrow is amazing in it. Well if you're old enough, Addicted by Zane. It's very graphic, but it was still a good read. I'll check it out. Graphic stuff makes things more interesting |
