What are important lessons in life that you learned through mistakes of your own?

I learned that I should always look at where I'm going while I'm running.
Last school year, I was running to catch up with my friend who was ahead of me. I looked at the people who were on the football field while running and all of a sudden, I hit a pole, HARD. I fell backwards and I was really concerned about my nose because I thought I had broken it, luckily I didn't, it just stung. I did busted my lip and chipped little piece of my tooth (got that fixed!), it wasn't really that noticeable though. I'm lucky I didn't pass out or get a concussion! Oh and I'm also lucky because only my friend saw what happened. ONLY she was there haha. That would've been wayyy embarassing if other students were around.
