Try asking "What kind of keyboard do you have?"
I don't think operating systems have anything to do with this.

The Operating System Has Everything To Do With It. That's Where The Settings For Everything Is. The Physical Keyboard Has Nothing To Do With What's Going On There. Your Computer Controls It.

Wow. How/Why Do You Type Like This?

So maybe the operating system has something to do with it, but some keyboards have shortcuts. Y'know, like you press spacebar and it mutes? Yeah.. It could be the same with Macs, but I haven't been on my MacBook in a while. Don't know about Linux though, 'cause I haven't been near a system on Linux since July.

I'm guessing that someone made a shortcut on your computer that when you press space, sound mutes. Try to find keyboard shortcuts somewhere and change the settings.

Wait-What brand and model keyboard do you have? And are you on a laptop or PC?

Oh, right. I forgot to say that if you're using iTunes, it's normal 'cause the song pauses when you hit space.
