textures.., question about loading.. Options

now i've never used textures before (other than the presets) and i've never downloaded/loaded them before. all i usually use are brushes.

my question is how do i load them?

i have PS7 i believe it's 7 not sure.. haha, but after i downloaded it.. i went to..

Filter > Texture > Texturizers > and then the little button that looks like a "play button" had the option "Load Texture" on it. all the textures i downloaded were jpgs. and it only let me download a PSD file.

i'm assuming i'm in the wrong place when i did that because after i changed one of the files from jpg. to psd. it accepted the file to be loaded, but i couldn't find it anywhere

help anyone?

also, what does a final product look like with a texture on it? i'm sure i've seen it but just assumed it was a brush.. i've never used them, i'm sure it can enhance my work pretty good...
