I don't know if this really goes in relationship, but it does deal with my parents, so I guess I do. Well, this might be longg...just so you are aware.
Okay, my two main goals in my life is dancing and acting. I've already made a topic about acting (which really helped), so...I guess I'll talk about dancing now. I've alwasy had a passion for dancing. It's really inspirational, and fun :] I used to take dance classes (jazz) when I was 5, but it was only during the summer (for like 5 days only though, it was one of those introduction things). My parents couldn't really support me with dance class that time, because of money issues. Well, now, I'm here, 13 turning 14, and I still love dancing. It's my way to pull myself out of all the stress I get, and so on. Well, now, I want to learn hip hop/breakdance. I already know one or two breakdance moves (six step and coffee grinder), but I learned those from my friends who actually take dance class. I never asked my parents..because of two reason: 1) They're really busy trying to support this family, and I can't take many activities out of school because I don't really have any ride (my parents are at work 5AM till 8PM), and plus, right now, my sister just crashed one of their new cars, so now we have to buy a new car, and get new insurances which cost a lot. 2) My parents don't like hiphop/breakdance...they don't really like rap, r&b, hip-hop, because they think it's a bad influence (the music videos on MTV and stuff). Honestly, I'm a good kid (hahaha). I get straight A's, do my chores before asked (and I don't get allowance), and I try to help out in the house as much as I can. Most of the time I make dinner for the whole family (my older sisters are lazy bums). I never complain, and MOST of the time I don't ask for money (unless I'm going shopping for school supplies or new clothes). On fridays (at 8PM), instead of partying and hanging out with my friends, I go to chinese school (two hour class of chinese). On saturdays, I spend the whole day at church (catholic scouting, CCD--somewhat bible school, and then mass). Next year when school starts, on sunday I'll be going to confirmation class (in the morning for about 2 hours). So while most kids are having fun on weekends, I'm working my butt off for a better life. I don't ask for a lot, but I really love dancing, and I want to be professionally trained....but there's always something in my way.. I've waited for 13 years, but I don't know if I can wait anymore, I just feel the NEED to take dance class, because I really love it (my friends teach me some moves at times). I know people are gonna question me, "are you sure you can handle this"...and I am SURE I can handle it. I am willing to sacrifice and give up anything just for dancing. my questions are: -what can i do with the parent problems/money issues/etc? QUOTE I never asked my parents..because of two reason: 1) They're really busy trying to support this family, and I can't take many activities out of school because I don't really have any ride (my parents are at work 5AM till 8PM), and plus, right now, my sister just crashed one of their new cars, so now we have to buy a new car, and get new insurances which cost a lot. 2) My parents don't like hiphop/breakdance...they don't really like rap, r&b, hip-hop, because they think it's a bad influence (the music videos on MTV and stuff). andd -Is it too late to take dance class?!?! Because, most people take it for like, their whole life(since they were like, 2 or 3). I know I sound whiny, I'm sorry. But I realized, I can't just sit here, and watch my life long dreams past by me, and not do anything about it. Thanks. |

If it's a matter of whether your parents can afford it right now or not, you may have to put your dreams on hold for awhile. If you really want this as much as you say you do, you can wait just a little while longer. Maybe you could get a job and start helping to pay your way or start saving up for lessons. That will show your parents how much you want this.
As for your parents not liking the music, tell them that you respect that fact, but you like the music because of the beat and the danceability, not always because of the lyrics. Tell them that the lyrics have no effect on you, and you just want to dance. Hope I helped! ![]() |
