- A county in southwestern China has killed as many as 50,000 dogs in a government campaign ordered after three people died from rabies, official media reported Tuesday. The five-day massacre in Yunnan province's Mouding county spared only military guard dogs and police canine units, the Shanghai Daily reported, citing local media. Dogs being walked were taken from their owners and beaten on the spot, the newspaper said. Other killing teams entered villages at night, creating noise to get dogs barking, then honing in and beating them to death. ![]() |

In a pandemic, that is exactly what must be done. Certainly, the people would be vaccinated instead of killed, and only people who had contact with an infected person, and the people they had contact with.
However, with dogs, you cannot question them to see what other dogs they have contacted. Therefore, you must assume that all the dogs in a certain area have had contact. As I have said, in a developed nation, vaccination would be the preferred method. However, I doubt china has the vaccinese to vaccinate 50,000 dogs, and therefore the only option was to destroy the animals. |

And esp with rabies, there are obvious signs. And it's not right to kill all the dogs. Come on now, they took people's dogs that were being walked. The walking dogs were perfectly fine walking on a leash along side their owner. Give me one good reason to kill that certain dog. I mean if a dog's coming at you with rabies, that's another story. But to kill someone's dog that they're walking. |
