Haha. Well, here's the output from du on / (my hard drive's root):
CODE 3.9G Applications 44K Desktop DB 196K Desktop DF 1.7G Developer 5.5G Library 2.0K Network 1.6G System 8.1G Users 4.0K Volumes 1.5K automount 3.5M bin 0B cores 2.0K dev 4.0K etc 4.0K mach 592K mach.sym 4.1M mach_kernel 528M private 2.1M sbin 4.0K tmp 918M usr 4.0K var So that's 3.9 GB of applications; 1.7 GB of developer applications, SDKs, header files, etc.; and 1.6 GB of system files. Running du on ~ (my home directory) yielded this: CODE 9.2M Code 96M Desktop 2.0G Documents 7.8M ISR 245M Installers 591M Library 69M Movies 3.0G Music 1.4G Pictures 624M Projects 16K Public 200K Sites So that's about 2.0GB of text files, 1.4GB of images, 3.0 GB of music, and about 0.6 GB of source code. I don't copy music I don't want to listen to to my computer, and I get rid of data I don't need anymore, so I don't use up tons of space. |
