Well you need fat to build muscle. Protein builds muscle. You need to get a lot of protein when you plan on exercising to build muscle. Protein provides the necessary amino acids to build and repair muscle. You're supposed to get at least 1g of protein per pound of body weight. If you're really wanting to gain muscle you should get twice as many grams as many pounds you way. So for example, if you weigh 140, you should get 280 grams of protein everyday. This isn't as easy as it sounds. Usually meaning you need to eat 6 meals a day. That is why most people drink protein shakes, to get the amount of protein they need. Usually protein shakes have about 20-60 grams of protein. A glass of milk supplies 8 grams of protein, the average serving for steak provides about 40 grams, and chicken is about 30. For more information about all foods just google "protein in food".
Too much protein without exercise causes you to gain fat, but protein plus exercise is what'll build muscle. If you don't get protein though,t hinking it'll make you fat, you're only breaking down your muscles. |
