You might have been expecting a bit much from Rocky Horror. It's pretty much just dumb laughs, great songs, absurd characters, and a mess of themes revolving around sexual exploration, romantic revolution, and a stab at social taboos. But, this is the thing. The movie, by itself, isn't all too great. I mean, it's a spectacle of sorts, but I would never volunteer to watch it at home on a television. You have to go to crowd participation shows and live stage shows. That's when it gets fun.
Yell shit at the screen. Yell shit at sluts (Rocky kids) and virgins (Rocky newbies), throw shit (not at the screen, that's expensive), yell shit at the actors, and just let loose. Rocky has been the largest, to my knowledge, audience participation film ever. And, it wasn't even intentional. It's one of the few midnight movies that you can still find playing every week all over the world with kids dressing up and coming in to loose their voice calling Brad Majors an a-hole. If you havn't seen it in the theaters, do it. You'll change your mind real fast, so long as you got a good host and audience. |
