Therefore, here we are, a gathering of all left-minded people who are interested in political discussion. ![]() As a member of this club, you will be expected to: - Represent the members of this club and other liberals by presenting your ideas in a tactful manner. We want to smash the stereotypes surrounding liberals by proving that we are capable of debating in a mature manner. - Help to lead newcomers posting in the debate forum. Not only do we want it to be more active, but our hope is to get other people to see the way things are flowing and follow suit. - Promote fair, intelligent, debate by researching your arguments before posting them. In order to join, you do not have to share ALL of the ideas held by left-wingers, but if you find yourself to be more on the right side of the spectrum, this isn't the place for you. However, it would be ideal if any conservatives on the forum come together and make their own club. Annd there you go. Be warned, I will be pretty much absent from this forum, so you guys have at it. >.<;; |

for the record, i do not support the removal of positions. i know that will shock many to the very core, but do try to bare with me.
*** I have two socially liberal parents, which obviously shaped my opinions when i was younger, and as such didnt feel particularly 'liberal', but rather just normal. However, when i moved back to england, i went to (and still attend) a hugely conservative private school, where my views were very much the minority. I therefore found myself challenged on a daily basis, particularly on issues such as civil liberties, animal rights, and gay rights. I gravitated towards the school's debating team as an outlet for my views, and have been able to particiapte in several formal debates, making my way to captain this conming year, and winning individual commendations in several competitions as well as team victories, for instance being named 'best individual' in the region in the Debating Matters competition. Furthermore, my liberalism has been heightened this year in terms of politcal awareness after i studied british politics this year, and will continue with american politics this coming year. from that, i have become a member of several pressure groups including Liberty Human Rights and Friends Of The Earth with additional volunteer work for Amnesty international, as well as joining the Liberal Democrat party recently, and i hope to be able to work as a campaigner in future elections. I have also taken the cliched 'political comapss' style tests, and was placed as a cross between hilary clinton (i SWEAR i nearly typed hilarry duff there) and ghandi, as well as being the most radical person on either side of the spectrum to take a test which all politics students were given to complete, obviously on the side of liberalism. admittedly i havent participated actively in the debate forum at cb recently, although i have in the last couple of days, and hope to increase it if organizations (lol) such as this increase the level of debate on the forum. *** oh, and i will make agressive whiney sounds at dani if i dont win. = ) |
