In the 1930's the government would release advertisements that stated marijuana caused people to commit suicide or go insane... Of course none of that was true...
If marijuana was so horrible, why is there "medical marijuana" ? Why is it legal in other countries? In 1920, marijuana was the only legal drug... when the prohibition act banned alcohol altogether. People rediscovered marijuana... Of course, people would associate marijuana with crime, rape, and murder because of the propaganda movement. Harry J. Anslinger convinced Congress and the public that marijuana was the cause of sex crimes and murder. He had no past with drugs. He wanted to protect his agency and keep his budget going. Marijuana wasn't a problem in Harlem in the 1930's... but in the southwestern states... Mexican migrants were bringing in marijuana and smoking it and growing it... They used marijuana as the excuse to push the Mexicans out of the U.S. Marijuana wasn't a serious problem... it was just used for politics. Anslinger would tell Congress that marijuana was having an effect on school children across america... but there was no evidence to support this... Congress disregarded the lack of evidence. Leading Congress to pass the Marijuana Tax Act... the first federal law against the drug. Anslinger somewhat "demonized" the drug. So just think, if all that didn't take place... if people weren't so ignorant then... marijuana would probably be legal. :x Anyway, Legal or not... marijuana isn't as harmful as cigarettes. There may be a mental addiction to weed but there will be no withdrawals if you were to stop smoking it... I have yet to hear marijuana being associated with cancer. I smoke about a pack or a pack and a half of Newports (menthol) a day. I must say that I probably smoke about a half ounce of marijuana every week. Plus, what's so great about this world that'll make you want to live longer? Shit, I couldn't care less. |
