If you noticed the avatars with pictures such as these

have like a certain .. I don't know to them. Like, I make avatars and if I need a picture, I go to Google images or whatever and search for them .. but see, they look "different". I really don't know how to explain it but with some of the pictures I search for .. it's like I (myself) took a picture of something with my camera and made an avatar out of it. Which is pretty .. ehh, I don't think anyone would like to use one of my avatars if I did that.
Take a look

See, take a look at what I mean

Do you see how they're different? I wanna know how to do that

EDIT
Oh, and by the way .. I'm terribly sorry but where COULD I get really good pictures? Google images really doesn't help at all. I only get like camera pictures that people took.

Ahhh I understand this now.

For whatever base you have, all you have to do is get a dark blue, such as #200E6C and set it to Exclusion and then you get the yellowish, bluish tint to it.

For this, take your base, duplicate it to screen. Make a new layer of an orange-y color, such as #F8E5BD, and set that to Multiply. Then, make a new layer on top of that and fill that with a light blue, such as, #D1ECFB and set that to Color Burn. Y, voila.

Take your base, and then add a layer of any grayish, maybe light purplish color, and then set it to Color Burn, or soft light.

For this one, do the light orange on multiply and then light blue on color burn. Should give a similar result. This one looks like maybe they used a darker orange and then a darker blue, but still with the same settings.

Most of these images were screencaps. Try http://community.livejournal.com/cap_it/

I was thinking about making a tutorial about this...maybe I will do that.
