If you noticed the avatars with pictures such as these

have like a certain .. I don't know to them. Like, I make avatars and if I need a picture, I go to Google images or whatever and search for them .. but see, they look "different". I really don't know how to explain it but with some of the pictures I search for .. it's like I (myself) took a picture of something with my camera and made an avatar out of it. Which is pretty .. ehh, I don't think anyone would like to use one of my avatars if I did that.
Take a look

See, take a look at what I mean

Do you see how they're different? I wanna know how to do that

EDIT
Oh, and by the way .. I'm terribly sorry but where COULD I get really good pictures? Google images really doesn't help at all. I only get like camera pictures that people took.

I actually just submitted a tutorial like this just a minute ago.If it gets accepted then check it out.But give it a day or so to let it be approved or not.

You can find pictures on google and improve them with my tutorial.

Or you can just go to http://www.elegancepixelfied.com/
That place is great.

I'm a bit nosy but what was your tutorial about? I mean, obviously on coloring an icon but how did you do that? Like, through color layers on blending option settings, or curves, or something like that? There are so many ways and yeah..just wondering.
