Here we go. Okay, When my mom was young she got pregnant when she was 17 when she married her boyfriend he turned into a complete jerk and cheated on her & abused her all that stupid stuff. Shes been divorced 2 times and now shes getting divorced again. Meanwhile, she started seeing her first boyfriend who still is a complete jerk. This really doesn't have a whole lot to do with what I'm asking but I had to tell you some backround..anyway,I'm almost at the same age now and whenever someone likes me I can never get close to them, like recently I started talking to this guy who I found out liked me for 2 years and idk I told him the lets-just-be-friends thing and whenever I do that I always feel really bad like maybe I should have gone out with them because it might have been a good relationship. He seemed like a really nice person too, I've never had anyone say they cared about me like he did. But idk if I felt the same way. What the heck is my problem.

I don't get it. I thought you knew what your problem was because you gave the exact information that would make us assume that you're afraid of being like your mom who had bad luck with men.

I can't tell you that no one is going to hurt you or that you're definitely not going to run into any jerks like your mom's first boyfriend. I can just tell you that these kinds of things aren't hereditary. Just because your mom hasn't found a keeper doesn't mean that you won't either.

I know I'm kind of stealing and revising what Forrest Gump said but dating is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. I believe that it's true. You just have to put yourself out there, keep your eyes open, and hope for the best. The prettiest chocolate can be filled with crap while the ugliest one can be filled with love. Or you can find a nice one that is delicious inside and out.

Just be careful, watch yourself with guys.
