ive lived for 21 years now. but i still wonder sometimes. why do i live?

^ I think that's what he wants us to notice. I'm atheist, but I think that whatever comes our way. We are given the choices (like you said) to figure out what to do. Some choose to avoid, other choose to conquer. If you choose to avoid problems for the rest of your life, then I suppose they'll never learn.
