scroll box overflow, how do i change the overflow to going down only? Options

[ABERCROMBIEandFI...]

okay so i have scroll boxes on my page, but i want the overflow to only go down, not overflowing to the right. i dont want there to be a scrolly thing on the bottom, but i dont want to enlarge the scroll box. at the moment, my code is

<div style="overflow: auto; width: 300px; height: 28px; border: solid; border-color: 000000; border-width: 2px">blahblahblah</div>

i tried changing the overflow to down, but it just killed the whole box.

HELP?
