I know I'm not a guy, but I'll give you my opinion anyway. Ice-breaking is no secret. Don't ask a yes-or-no question to start a conversation or any question that can be answered by one word. Keep it interesting and ask them about themselves. That's naturally what people like talking about the most. Here are some conversation starters...

Has any book had a major impact on you?

What was the best bargain you ever found?

What’s the most annoying thing someone could do on a first date?

What's the most unusual thing you know how to do?

Is there anything you can’t say "no" to?

What food could they not pay you enough to eat?

Who are your cult heroes? Why?

What was the craziest thing you ever did when you were a kid?

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

What would be the title of your biography?

Those ice-breakers definitely seem like they would be effective, maybe for a couple of 40 yr olds though. I mean honestly, if I asked someone I was attempting to date what the title of their biography would be she would probably think I am a geek (which I am, but that's besides the point). Breaking the ice shouldn't be something rehearsed. If you are trying to break the ice with someone you should have questions to ask, but not anything that sounds as boring and out of place as "what book has had the most impact on you?". Try to make it more specific to the person talking to. Anything to do with pop culture is a sure bet, being that most ppl follow it. Sports, movies, music, maybe even books depending on the subject, are all great topic starters that get the convo flowing. He he, I even talk about sex sometimes thumbsup.gif
