This is kinda weird but I was talking with my friend about heaven and we came across a question; can you still go to heaven if you commit suicide?(you would obviously already believe and God and all)
I know it's a weird question but I was just wondering what your opinions were about that. ![]() |

I can't help but think that the Church's condemnation of suicide was a way to combat ritual sacrifice and/or suicide. Christianity taught that faithful Christians who died went to heaven, but the Church leaders couldn't have people killing themselves to get into heaven; thus, they made a condemnation of suicide. I can't help but looking at the political implications of the condemnation. It's similar, in my mind, to why Jesus' birthday is celebrated in December, instead of when he was really born.

QUOTE I'm a Christian, but I definately dont believe that someone who commits suicide is going to hell. I mean, would our "kind and loving" God condemn them to hell? Plus, I think someone who kills themself has to be extremely depressed, and not be thinking clearly / acting like themself. I also dont think you have to be saved at all to go to Heaven. But whatever. Almost all Christians seem to think they are going to hell. [edit] I believe that Jesus already saved us, when he died on the cross. I don't really think we can judge God this way. 1) We don't know the fate of a person who commits suicide 2) Suicide is a sin, unless in extreme cases (I suppose the people who died jumping out of the WTC to avoid the fires would not be considered suicides) 3) Would it be fair for God not to punish someone for breaking a rule? You believe in Once Saved, Always Saved right? Does that mean everyone goes to heaven now? I can't help but think that the Church's condemnation of suicide was a way to combat ritual sacrifice and/or suicide. This is a bit troubling. Murder is undoubtedly wrong. Why would killing yourself not be wrong? I'd really like an explanation as to why you think this way. |
