My favorite genre of music, Ska, is one that is highly unknown these days. Many poeple, if they do know about ska, believe that Less Than Jake or Reel Big Fish started it, when in fact it has been around since the 60's! Reggae and Punk were both influenced by ska, and some of Mr. Marley's greatest hits were in fact ska.
Ska is often defined by the upbeat guitar strokes and of course, the horns. Bass is also a highly defining factor in ska music. "I don't know any ska bands!" Well, culled from my own myspace, here's an awesome list of bands from all three waves of ska. Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto, Big D & The Kids Table, Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, Mustard Plug, Hepcat, Go Jimmy Go, RX Bandits, Reel Big Fish, Operation Ivy, The Specials, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, MU330, Less Than Jake, The Skatalites, Skankin Pickle, The Aquabats, The Toasters, Sublime, Suicide Machine, The Planet Smashers, Five Iron Frenzy, Desmond Dekker, Prince Buster, The Selecters "I feel like inserting a shameless plug into this topic!" *points to sig* My own ska band. Music up soon. "Why are you so awesome?" It was a gift from the gods. "Please stop talking now" Ok. |

Yeah, Less Than Jake is ska, well, atleast they use to be. They've kinda lost their sound over time.
